CLASSES
TRAINERS. a trainer's main focus most often lies on becoming the best there has ever been, be it in kanto or johto or of the entire world. they strive for greatness through the fine-tuned skills of their pokémon . a trainer captures pokémon and trains them meticulously to fight and defeat the eight (8) gym leaders scattered across jinoa. defeating these eight (8) gym leaders will grant a trainer access to the elite four. if a trainer manages to defeat the elite four champion, they will take this title for themselves and must be challenged and defeated in order for any future trainers to acquire the title and take their place.

COORDINATORS. unlike the trainer, a coordinator utilizes their pokémon for maximized impressionability rather than pure strength. coordinators desire to show off the beauty and uniqueness of their pokémon through the creative use of their pokemon's moves and abilities. in order to compete against the contest master, a coordinator must participate in five (5) different contests. each contest focuses on an individual aspect of a pokémon: coolness, beauty, cuteness, cleverness, and toughness. once a coordinator has won each of these contests they gain the title of top coordinator. to prove that they're the best of the best, top coordinators are invited to compete in the grand festival held every six months. coordinators who win the contest at this festival will earn the title of contest star.

BREEDERS. a breeder focuses less on competing against gym leaders or participating in contests and more on devoting their time and energy to learning how to raise the best pokémon. this often includes, as the name suggests, breeding pokémon. their purpose for breeding can be any variety of things from getting certain egg moves to selling high quality pokemon. in addition, unlike trainers and coordinators who can only carry a maximum of five (5) eggs at any given moment, breeders are allowed to fill their entire party with six (6) eggs. a character who has chosen to become a breeder also has one less thread requirement to hatch their eggs. in addition, even though a breeder's focus is raising pokémon, they're allowed to challenge both gyms and contest halls as well. however, they must pay a fee of ¥5,000 each time they challenge. if they lose, they receive ¥2,500 back but if they win, they receive the same prize as any other trainer or coordinator.

TEAM ROCKET. this is the team rocket we all know and...love? hate? they've been kicked out of two regions and yet despite that are still led by infamous giovanni. a team rocket member's primary goal is to cause havoc everywhere they go. team rocket members may participate in missions in order to receive points toward promotion to a higher rank in the group. more opportunities will be given to team rocket members as they progress through their ranks. unlike trainers, coordinators, and breeders who receive their starter pokémon from the cubic city laboratory, new team rocket members will receive their starters, along with essential team rocket gear and identification, from team rocket's laboratory located here

CIVILIANS. civilians are just that: civilians. they don't subscribe themselves to any of the careers listed above. they tend to lead less adventurous lifestyles than their trainer counterparts, but their lives are far from simple. some may choose to work in the areas where they live while others choose to travel the region with their companions. civilians are allowed to have pokémon as companions (though you may choose not to give them any), which can be created as premades during the application process or received on-site, but they aren't allowed to compete in gyms or contest halls without the proper license received from either the cubic city laboratory or the team rocket headquarters.

SWITCHING CLASSES. your character can switch between any of these classes by purchasing a class changer from the ooc section of the store. the class changer is a one use item, so you'll have to repurchase it if you want your character to change classes again. remember to pm one of the admins after you purchase a class changer so they can move your character's application to the appropriate board.

TRAVELING
after step one of having your character written and accepted is complete, traveling across jinoa becomes the next top priority. all new trainers, breeders and coordinators, except those with pre-made pokémon over level 20, may begin either at the cubic city laboratory located HERE or at the team rocket laboratory located HERE to get a starter pokemon. those who have already begun their journey, unfortunately, are not eligible for starter pokemon unless they have yet to form a team. from either location, a player may either choose to travel to another city or proceed to other routes to begin their pokémon journey.

during traveling threads, every member is required to include their current pokémon team in their first post. no more than 6 pokémon (including eggs) can be held by a traveler at any given time. there's no need to worry about the levels of pokémon on any given route as the majority will be scaled to the pokémon on your team. the lists of available pokémon on each route only shows base evolutions, but later evolutions may also be found. be warned that it's likely that you will encounter much stronger pokémon on routes closer to the elite four. so be careful when making use of the train system.

traveling through routes on jinoa is nonlinear, meaning that a character can have a thread in cubic city and then in sodalite junction without question. however, in accordance with the liquid time rule, try and make sure that the travel is realistic. for example, don't have a character travel from route 1 to route 9 in a day of merely walking. at the moment, there’s no minimum post count for travel but try not to abuse this too much. for example, making several 1 post threads in a short time frame will be frowned down upon.

liquid time allows a member to not be constrained to a singular thread, although they must continue to follow some sort of timeline. for example, if your character is hurt in one thread and you choose to start a thread elsewhere you must reflect this in that second thread. in addition, keep in mind the laws of logic and time when moving your characters across the boards; a character in glacier pass cannot suddenly appear in mt. larimar despite having already been there before. keep in mind the method of travel (walking, biking, flying, surfing, etc.) when considering how long it takes your character to travel from one board to another. if you encounter any problems with liquid time, or have questions, feel free to contact a staff member.

the train system on jinoa travels between cubic city, pearlshire, sunstone city, sodalite junction, granite city, and zirconia city.

BREEDING, EGGS & HAPPINESS
BREEDING POKÉMON. to breed two pokémon, you first need to make sure they're both in the same egg group. then, you need one (1) thread where the two pokémon you intend to breed are interacting together. once that thread is finished, fill out the daycare form in the daycare center and wait for an egg to be generated. premade pokémon cannot be bred.

HOW THE DAYCARE WORKS. eggs are randomized using random.org. the first roll decides whether it's the mother's species or the father's. the second decides the gender. the third decides whether it's shiny or not. if either parent knows an egg move the child can learn, the pokémon will be born with that move.

EGG THREADS. the number of egg threads needed to hatch an egg is determined by its rarity. a common pokémon only needs two (2) egg threads to hatch. an uncommon pokémon needs three (3), and rare pokémon need four (4). for threads to count as egg threads, they must have at least ten (10) posts. once you've finished the required threads, your egg will be ready to be hatched in any threads thereafter. all pokémon hatched from eggs start at level 1. personalities of hatched eggs are created by the roleplayer.

FLAME BODY ABILITY. pokemon with the flame body ability can help reduce the number of threads that a pokemon is needed to hatch by (1) thread. just make sure to include the pokemon in your team party when you post, and the pokemon must be interacting with the egg throughout the egg thread.

HAPPINESS. a pokémon with base happiness (or friendship as it's referred to in the games) needs five (5) interaction threads with their trainer to reach maximum happiness. you can assume any pokémon on jinoa that wasn't hatched or captured in a luxury ball on-site has base happiness. for a thread to count toward a pokémon's happiness level, the trainer and pokémon have to be interacting throughout the thread, whether they're just hanging out together or participating in a battle together. there are several variables that affect the amount of interaction threads that a pokémon needs. hatching the pokémon from an egg, capturing it in a luxury ball, or giving it a soothe bell to hold lowers the amount of interaction threads necessary by one (1) thread each. these conditions stack, so if you meet all three your pokémon will only need two interaction threads with their trainer to reach maximum happiness. eevee may evolve using this method as well and it's up to the roleplayer to decide whether their eevee evolves into an umbreon, espeon, or sylveon once its interaction threads are finished.

FOSSILS any trainer who finds themselves luckily in the possession of a fossil may get them revived at any of the local labs: cubic city, tr headquarters (for tr members only) or dr. quartz's lab in zirconia city. create a thread, and a mod will reply with the stats of your newly revived pokemon!

GYMS
trainers are allowed to participate in gym battles located across jinoa in eight different cities: erinite village, peralshire, sunstone city, sodalite junction, granite city, lapis cove, opal isles, and zirconia city. while the recommended order of gym goes directly from erinite to zirconia, none of the gyms are badge locked and can be completed in any desired order. as such, each gym scales to the highest level pokémon on your team in order to maintain a level playing field.

each gym has a designated gym leader and a list of pokemon used (which will scale in level and evolution according to the challenger). the gyms can be operated by any of jinoa's permitted staff members. after the battle has concluded, a staff member will judge the level of creativity and usage of pokémon during the battle and decide whether or not the challenger receives a badge. awarded badges will appear below your side profile.

experience during gym battles is calculated equally at the end of a gym battle to all pokémon that participated. the amount granted is determined by whether or not the challenger receives a badge. if the challenger receives a badge, the pokémon used receive 100% experience. if the challenge does not receive a badge, the pokémon used receive only 50% of the experience earned during battle. you can challenge the gym leader an unlimited amount of times, but remember that gyms will always scale to the level of the highest leveled pokémon in your current party, so there will not be level advantages.

the bug-type gym is in erinite village.
the normal-type gym is in pearlshire.
the ground-type gym is in sunstone city.
the electric-type gym is in sodalite junction.
the flying-type gym is in granite city.
the water-type gym is in lapis cove.
the fairy-type gym is in opal isles.
the steel-type gym is in zirconia.

thanks to bentenny10 and jcferggy for badge sprites

CONTESTS
just as gym battles are to trainers, contests and consequently contest battles are essential to coordinators. coordinators are allowed to participate in contest halls located across jinoa in five different cities: erinite village, sunstone city, sodalite junction, granite city, and zirconia city. there is no recommended order of contest halls, as contest halls, like gyms, scale to level, but it's recommended that pokémon are well trained before participating due to the move restrictions for each type of hall.

each contest hall has a designated hall master and a list of pokémon they will use (which will scale in level and evolution according to the challenger). the contests are operated and judged by any of jinoa's permitted staff members. after the contest has concluded, a staff member will judge the level of creativity and usage of pokémon during the event and decide whether or not the challenger receives a ribbon. awarded ribbons will appear below your side profile.

once a coordinator has all five ribbons, they are officially considered a top coordinator. only top coordinators can participate in the grand festival. the festival occurs every 6 months and functions like a national contest. provided that there are enough participants, your opponent will be another member's character. winners are announced at the festival's conclusion. not only will the highest scoring coordinators get prizes, but they'll also earn the title of contest star.

experience during contests is calculated equally at the end to all pokémon that participated. the amount granted is determined by whether or not the challenger receives a ribbon. if the challenger receives a ribbon, the pokémon used receive 100% experience. if the challenge does not receive a ribbon, the pokémon used receive only 50% of the experience earned during battle. you can challenge the hall master an unlimited amount of times, but remember that halls will always scale to the level of the highest level pokémon being used, so there will not be level advantages.

the clever hall is in erinite village.
the cute hall is in sunstone city.
the beauty hall is in sodalite junction.
the tough hall is in granite city.
the cool hall is in zirconia city

BERRIES
GETTING BERRIES. you can buy berries from the store, get them from random events, or they may be modded to you in a thread with a pokémon who has pickup as their ability.

GROWING BERRIES. to start growing berries, you'll need to purchase a berry pot from the key items section of the store. you'll also need at least one berry so you have something to plant in the pot. planting removes the berry from your inventory. at the end of one berry thread, you'll get three berries of the same species as the berry that was planted in the pot (i.e. planting an oran berry will give you three oran berries). in order for threads to count as berry threads, it needs to have at least ten (10) posts.

POKÉBLOCKS. pokéblocks are used to prepare pokémon for contests by improving their condition in different categories (cool, cute, etc) depending on the color of the pokéblocks that are fed to them. before you can start making pokéblocks, you'll need to buy a pokéblock kit from the key items section of the store and you'll need berries to mix together. putting berries into your kit removes them from your inventory.

rp your character putting berries into their pokéblock kit and then post in the mod requests thread and a mod will randomize pokéblocks for you. the amount of berries and the color of the berries affect how your pokéblocks will turn out. using three berries will make three pokéblocks come out. using three red berries will ensure that all three pokéblocks come out red, but if you mix one red berry and one blue berry then you might get two red pokéblocks, two blue pokéblocks, or a red pokéblock and a blue pokéblock.

for every pokéblock injested, your pokemon can expect a stat increase in the appropriate category. ordinary pokéblocks give a +1 stat increase. for example, a red pokeblock will increase a pokemon's coolness by +1. if you feed your pokémon a pokéblock, please keep record of it in your inventory somewhere and in any contest threads you may have.

red - coolness
blue - beauty
pink - cuteness
green - cleverness
yellow - toughness

STORE
the store on jinoa, accessed here or accessed from the navigation bar beneath our banner, allows members an easy, automated way of purchasing items for their individual characters.

money for the store is added to your account every time you post in any of our roleplay-related boards. starting a thread will net you 300 pokédollars and every reply you make will reward you 250 pokédollars each. you can see how much money your character has by hovering your mouse over your avatar. there are other ways to earn money as well, such as defeating gyms, winning contests, and participating in site events. you may also transfer money and items between yourself or other members by using the 'send money' or 'send an item' options in the store.

the store will be updated periodically with new items. some items, such as tms and hold items, will be rotated out and replaced with a new set of items within that category. for example, tm 05 may be taken out of the shop and replaced with tm 20. you can see when the shop was last updated by checking the store's front page.

in addition, there will be 6 eggs available for purchase each month. there will be 1 total stock for each egg, and they will not be replaced until the following month. they will cost at least 3000 PP and will scale depending on their rarity level on jinoa. this is one of the places on jinoa where pokemon not found elsewhere on the site may pop up, so keep your eye out!

all in-character items bought from the store must be added to your character's pc. one-use items should be removed from your character's pc and your store inventory after they've been used to avoid confusion over what you still have.

when an item has been used either in thread or for any other purpose, please ensure that you go into your inventory and delete that item immediately (or as soon as possible). failure to do so may result in future complications for both members and staff.

POKEMON
ABILITIES in regards to abilities, pokemon on jinoa are generally assumed to have both abilities if they have two. however, in cases when abilities cancel each other out, the rper or mod may choose which ability they'd like the pokemon to have. please be sure to include this in your character's inventory! in regards to premade pokemon, please be sure to include their ability if it deviates from the norm as well - such as in the case of hidden abilities. if not included in the application pre-acceptance, then it will be assumed the pokemon has their regular abilities. to change this, you must pm a staff member.

MEGA POKEMON AND Z-MOVES. as of now, jinoa does not allow z-moves on account of them currently being too op and leading to godmodding. however, that being said, mega pokemon are now allowed on jinoa -- with some limitations.

first of all, only trainers with at least two badges or ribbons will be allowed to handle mega pokemon. meaning one or the other, but not both. (ie. one badge and one ribbon does not qualify.) any person who tries to handle a mega pokemon without them will quickly find themselves outmatched and overpowered, with disastrous consequences. after all, powerful pokemon won't listen to weak trainers. that being said, trainers then need to acquire a MEGA RING and MEGA STONE, which they have a few ways of acquiring.

the fastest and easiest way of purchasing them is to simply buy them from the site store. however, this is also the most expensive way, as a mega ring is at least 50,000PP and each mega stone is at least 25,000PP.

next, some lucky trainers may find themselves in possession of a mega ring or stone through various site events, quests or missions. this is also a relatively easy way of obtaining these items, though not reliable.

finally, the slowest but most reliable way of obtaining either item is simply by completing either the gym or hall challenges. professor pine hands out MEGA RINGS for trainers who have received four badges, or coordinators who have received three ribbons. in addition, she also prizes trainers who have received all eight badges or coordinators who have received all five ribbons with a starter pokemon mega stone of their choice. similarly, she will also award breeders these same gifts, provided they obtain the correct number of badges or ribbons.

MEGA EVOLUTION IN BATTLE pokemon may only mega-evolve if they have high affection and formed a deep bond with their trainer. pokemon who dislike their trainer or worse, do not trust their trainer will not be able to mega evolve, and in fact may suffer great pain if they do. that being said, most pokemon will mega evolve in battle as long as their trainer has the correct items. mega evolution lasts the entire duration of the battle. however, as soon as the pokemon de-evolves, they either faint or are rendered too fatigued to battle, so trainers best use their judgement before allowing their pokemon to mega-evolve. to find more information about mega evolution in general, check out the bulbapedia thread here.

MEGA EVOLUTION IN CONTESTS similar to mega evolution in battle, pokemon may sometimes be able to mega evolve during contests or appeals, if their excitement is high enough. they still must have high affection and a deep bond with their coordinator, and their evolution will last the length of the battle, appeal or until they become too fatigued to battle. mega evolutions will be able to gain twice the amount of hearts they normally would in their regular forms.

PICK-UP ABILITY pokemon with the pick-up ability can occasionally find random items. only pokemon with the pickup ability will be effected, even if there are others in the thread. to use this ability, simply link the thread in mod requests and explain that you wish to be modded an item. keep in mind, these threads are not modded by staff but rather mods may occasionally pop into threads to randomize an item and then leave. on average, an item may appear every 3-5 posts at a mod's discretion and a max of ten items per thread.

that being said, you can also SEARCH FOR BERRIES using the pick-up ability. in order to do this, simply include in your mod request that you would like to only search for berries. when searching ONLY for berries, you will receive more berries per mod but less often. a berry spawn will only appear on average every 5 posts per character at a mod's discretion.

EVOLUTION whether by stone, leveling up or bonding with their trainer, most pokemon on jinoa are capable of evolving. below, we have created a list of pokemon and how they evolve on jinoa which may differ slightly from the anime/games. in addition, if you see any pokemon missing, please be sure to PM an admin.
